JIS SKD5 is a high-performance hot work tool steel renowned for its exceptional thermal fatigue resistance and toughness. With a composition of 0.32-0.42% carbon, 4.80-5.50% chromium, and 1.20-1.50% molybdenum, it achieves a hardness of 48-52 HRC after heat treatment. Its ability to retain hardness at 600°C makes it ideal for aluminum die-casting molds, forging dies, and aerospace components. 5. JIS SKD5 Tool Steel Heat Treatment
Annealing
Heat to 885C, later cool in heat treatment at not quite 4C per hour. After annealing Hardness 235 HBS Max.
Hardening and Quenching
Quenching | salt bath furnace: 1177 / ℃
Quenching | controlled atmosphere furnace: 1191 / ℃
Heat preservation time: 5 ~ 15 mins
Quenching medium: air cooling
Tempering
Tempering temperature / ℃ : 552
After tempering hardness HRC or higher: 52

For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed, milled surface.
