DIN 1.2601 Cold Worked Tool Steel

Superior Abrasion Resistance
DIN 1.2601’s chromium carbides deliver 3-4 times higher wear resistance than standard low-alloy steels, making it ideal for high-load applications like silicon steel stamping dies and cold shear blades.
Precision Heat Treatment
The steel’s oil-quenching process achieves uniform hardness (≥58 HRC) with minimal distortion (<0.05%), ensuring precision for intricate tools like deep drawing molds.
Versatile Industrial Adaptability
From automotive fixtures to cutting tools, DIN 1.2601 adapts to diverse applications. Its thermal stability (up to 520°C) and polishability enhance performance in both cold work and moderate high-temperature environments.

DIN 1.2601 Cold Worked Tool Steel

 1. X165CrMoV12 | 1.2601 Cold Work Alloy Tool Steel Introduction

DIN 1.2601 (X165CrMoV12) is a high-performance cold work tool steel renowned for its exceptional wear resistance, thermal stability, and dimensional accuracy. With a composition of 1.45-1.70% carbon and 11.00-12.50% chromium, it forms fine carbides that enhance durability in abrasive environments. Its optimized heat treatment process minimizes distortion, making it ideal for complex tools like stamping dies and thread-rolling tools. Widely used in automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing industries, DIN 1.2601 offers extended tool lifespan and cost-efficiency under extreme conditions.

5. DIN 1.2601 Tool Steel Heat Treatment

  • Annealing: Heat to 800-830°C, slow cool to ≤500°C. Final hardness: ≤225 HB.

  • Quenching: Oil quench from 950-1020°C to achieve ≥58 HRC.

  • Tempering: Temper at 180-250°C for stress relief and dimensional stability. Double tempering recommended for critical applications.

6. DIN 1.2601 Tool Steel Applications

DIN 1.2601 is ideal for high-stress and precision cold work tooling:

  • Cold Work Dies: Silicon steel stamping dies, deep drawing molds, and trimming tools.

  • Cutting Tools: Cold shear blades, thread-rolling dies, and circular saws.

  • Industrial Components: High-wear guide rails, wear plates, and fixtures.

Why Choose DIN 1.2601?

  • Longevity: 3-4 times higher wear resistance than low-alloy tool steels.

  • Precision: Minimal distortion during heat treatment ensures tight tolerances for complex geometries.

7. Key Advantages of DIN 1.2601 Steel

  1. Enhanced Wear Resistance: Dense chromium carbides (Cr₇C₃) provide superior abrasion resistance, ideal for high-load stamping and cutting tools.

  2. Deep Hardenability: Uniform hardness in large cross-sections (up to 400mm) due to optimized manganese and molybdenum synergy.

  3. Thermal Stability: Retains hardness (≥45 HRC) at 520°C, suitable for molds exposed to moderate thermal cycling。

8. Delivery condition

For hot forged or hot rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot forged or rolled, annealed, rough turned.
For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed, milled surface.

For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, black surface.
